The relationship between coping styles and anxiety
in single-child mothers and several-child Mothers

Abstract
Background : Having a child for each parent can be stressful and cause anxiety. Hence, the present study aimed to investigate the relationship between coping style and anxiety in single-child mothers and several-child Mothers living in the city of Karaj was performed. Materials and Methods : Therefore, a descriptive - comparative and correlational 200 mothers 28 to 40 years old living in Karaj were selected using snowball sampling. Hamilton Rating Anxiety Scale (HRSA), and measures of coping style Endler and Parker (1990) were performed on women. The data support the use of statistical software SPSS-19 and descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation, stepwise regression analysis and T test for independent samples were analyzed. Results : The mean age of participants was 32.14±1.74. The results of this study showed that both groups of single-child mothers and several-child Mothers in coping style scale and Anxiety scale are significantly different from each other. Between the emotion-focused coping style and The Avoidant coping style in Coping Styles Scale, Between High Anxiety Scale in anxiety score of mothers with many children there is a significant relationship but Significant relationship between the one-child mothers with problem-focused coping style were not found. Also stepwise regression analysis showed The best factor to predict anxiety in mothers emotion-focused coping style and the several-child. Discussion : Results indicate that number of children is important in discussions about anxiety and coping strategies used by mothers.
